Projects Overview

Sheffield Location Map

Sheffield has assembled a globally significant portfolio of 100% owned mineral sands projects.

The Company's mineral sands projects comprise of:

  • The flagship high-grade, zircon-rich Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project located on the Dampier Peninsula midway between Broome and Derby in the Canning Basin of Western Australia
  • The Eneabba project, located near Geraldton in Western Australia’s Mid-west region
  • The large scale McCalls chloride ilmenite project, located 110km north of Perth in Western Australia

Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project

The Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project is Sheffield’s flagship project due to its large scale, high grade, high in-situ zircon content and its potential to produce premium products which could displace lower quality products in the market. The Company completed a Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS) in March 2017 which confirmed Thunderbird as a world class mineral sands project based on a 42-year mine life and globally significant annual production of zircon and ilmenite.

The Thunderbird BFS is underpinned by one of the world's largest and highest grade, zircon and ilmenite-rich mineral sands ore reserves.  The ore reserve stands at 680.5Mt @ 11.3% HM (proven and probable) while the Mineral Resource contains 3.23 billion tonnes @ 6.9% HM, including a higher grade component of 1.05 million tonnes @ 12.2 % HM with very high in-situ zircon (0.93%) and ilmenite (3.3%) grades (Measured, Indicated and Inferred). These grades, its size, and surface outcropping nature, place Thunderbird in the top tier of HMS deposits globally.

Eneabba Mineral Sands Project

The Eneabba Mineral Sands Project located near Geraldton in Western Australia’s mid-west region, has a combined Mineral Resource totalling 193 million tonnes @ 3.0% HM (Measured, Indicated and Inferred) containing 4.8 million tonnes of VHM at numerous HM cut-offs.  This project is spread across seven deposits which include West Mine North, Ellengail, Yandanooka, Durack, Drummond Crossing, Thomson and Robbs Cross.

Sheffield’s strategy at Eneabba is to accumulate deposits capable of supporting a sequential mining operation with a flexible mobile plant.

McCalls Mineral Sands Project

The McCalls Mineral Sands Project, located 110km to the north of Perth near the town of Gingin, has a combined Mineral Resource totalling 5.8 billion tonnes @ 1.4% HM (Indicated and Inferred) containing 75 million tonnes of VHM at a 1.1%HM cut-off.  McCalls project contains two Mineral Resources at the McCalls and Mindarra Springs prospects.  The McCalls Project contains over 67 million tonnes of chloride ilmenite grading 59-66% TiO2 and is considered a longer-term strategic asset.
